Need a quiet place to study? Or somewhere to work on a group project? If you haven’t already, visit the library. The library is an amazing place to finish up work.
The first few months of college I don’t think I stepped into the library once. I assumed it would be books, and tables… nothing different from high-school. But, boy was I wrong. College involves a lot of assignments, group projects and reading. Which require resources that might not necessarily be at your house. And the day I visited the library, was the day I realized that.
If you need to work on an assignment alone, and don’t feel like driving all the way home to finish it, the library has just the place for you. The ‘silent study section’. I use the silent study work area all of the time. It’s clearly super quiet and is meant for people who are trying to get a lot of work done. I really like it because there are plugs at each end of the work space, so I often charge my laptop while working. Sometimes it can get pretty busy during the day, particularly around 10am-1pm. That’s why I normally go after my later classes and stay there until 6pm.
In my program we have a lot of group projects, and you might too. Sometimes my group members and I can’t get together and practice our presentation. The library is a great place to get together with your group and work on a presentation. I use the workrooms or the collaboration rooms to do this. These rooms are all around the library, and you can use them hourly. The way you do this is by searching on Google ‘Conestoga workrooms’, you’ll be sent to a link that shows you the slot times each workroom is open, as well as the description on each room.
Normally I use a collaboration room when I’m working on a presentation because you’re able to use the cables to hook your laptop up to an LCD monitor, which is really cool. There are six chairs in each collaboration room which is also nice because you have a lot of space to work. The workroom includes four chairs and a whiteboard, so you can sketch out ideas. It’s really cool that Conestoga has these rooms, and they’re super beneficial when you do need to be in a group setting.
The library doesn’t just have small tables, they have huge tables that can sit up to eight people as well. So, if you don’t need a fancy collaboration room you can always work on those tables. There are individual seats across each wall of the library, and comfortable chairs. The library has computer stations, along with printers and a photocopier. If you don’t want to print off your stuff via the school printer, you can do it right from your laptop.
The library is a really great place to go and has so many resources that I haven’t mentioned yet. I probably use the library about 4 times a week, and the workrooms once or twice every two weeks. So, if you haven’t checked it out yet… you really should do so!
